Job Hunting

Is it just me or today is it REALLY hard to get a job? I know the "economy" is down and were in some sort of deficit but I really didn't know what that meant until I lost my job last month and had to look for more work.

I remember 5 years ago when I was job hunting, I could send out a lot of resumes on Craigslist and get at least 5 calls or so a day for job interviews. Now I send out even more resumes I did 5 years ago and cannot get one single call a week! I am seriously sending out resumes every day and cannot get a call back.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone got a tips on how to at least get a callback hopefully setting up a job interview?

  4. I wish you luck my friend, and my advice is sending hundreds of CV by e-mail. Someone will soon call you, you will see.

  5. Try getting a reccomendation for a job through freinds or family, its much more efficient than just blindly sending out resumes. Thats how I got employed cleaning out/repairing rented houses and getting payed 14 dollars/hour at the ripe old age of 16.

  6. Getting a job is tough man, best thing to do is (this is coming from a 16 year old) go to "local" businesses and get try to apply there. Applying Online is rare to work. I applied to the local Five Below, it's more of a chain so I'm not sure if I'll be accepted or not, but I just picked up a paper and brought my resume in next day and handed it to the manager. THAT gets you hired.

  13. Is military an option? the airforce is pretty sweet, and if you have a degree, you might be able to go to officer school, all while getting paid and stuff, great benefits!

  14. I agree with the person who said to talk to friends and family. One way I got an interview was I found a place I wanted to work then looked up someone on linkedin.com who works there. If they had less than 2 or 3 degrees of separation from someone you know, talk to the people in line to get an introduction. The times I've used that method have resulted in much better results than blindly sending out resumes.
